New year, new jobs: How we’ve jumped into life as spottypups

Welcome to the pack

It’s been an exciting start to 2021 at spottydog communications and we marked the new year by welcoming two new pups into our pack. Here we meet PR, Communications & Social Media Executive Esme Wilson and digital guru Maddie Tudor as they get stuck into their brand-new roles.

Stepping into the new year and starting a new job at Birmingham PR agency spottydog has been a whirlwind of excitement. At first, the idea of working from home as a new pup felt a bit daunting, but chatting to colleagues regularly on team calls in my makeshift home office has helped me to settle in quickly.

After joining the pack, I couldn’t wait to get stuck into generating creative social media content for my clients, and quickly jumped into brainstorms, drafting posts and writing blogs.

To start with, I wanted to understand my clients further by news monitoring and researching the nature of their business, who they want to reach and what their goals are.

It’s been interesting to delve into the worlds of the different clients, from drafting social media content for clients like Mitchells & Butlers and Potters Poultry to writing blogs for Heritage Bathrooms and Climate Wise. With a busy schedule and a lot to learn, it didn’t take me long to feel fully immersed in the spottydog pack.

Joining in on the fun

Even before logging into my laptop on the first day, I was invited to the spottydog Christmas party and sent a box of Christmas-themed goodies. This was an unusual way to meet the rest of the PR agency team but I appreciated the open welcome and before long I was taking part in the ‘Big Fat Quiz of the year’ and guessing which team members were ‘most likely to’.

Being introduced to the team in such a fun and light-hearted way made it a lot easier to get to know the people I’d be working with and feel part of the pack.

In line with spottydog’s culture, the fun team-building activities continued as I joined the team’s regular ‘Long Time No Tea’ to take part in quizzes, activities and challenges. This is one of my favorite times of the week and I’m already plotting my route to the top of the leaderboard.

“Starting a new job while stocking up on loo roll has been interesting.” – Maddie

Jumping into a new job role in a top PR agency in Birmingham while in the middle of a pandemic has been interesting to say the least.  And that’s before you consider the need to race to the supermarket to buy a vast amount of sacred instant curry noodles and precious loo roll in the worry that they could be sold out!

But starting at spottydog during the pandemic has actually felt quite natural. Yes, I do miss human interaction and I have indeed started talking to my dog pretending he is a person in the office, but, with the frequent group video calls and everyday calls to my line manager, I feel like I’ve got up to speed quite quickly.

Regardless of working from home, I have still learnt about the various spottydog clients from my new colleagues!  I’ve also really enjoyed working on spottydog content, including this blog about our Opportunity Spots planners.

Looking forward

We’ve both enjoyed creating best-of-breed content for our clients and are excited to continue throwing out creative ideas and fetching bold content for campaigns, social media and online platforms. Keep your eyes peeled for all the ‘pawsome’ campaigns we get involved with over the coming weeks and months.
