Here at spottydog, we’re passionate about creating engaging content and being a graphic design agency, that helps bring our clients’ stories to life. At the start of this year, our creative team grew by two as we welcomed new spotty pups Alex and Alice.
We spoke to Alex, our resident videographer, and Alice, creative executive, about their experience of joining the spottydog team and what they’ve been working on.
Hi both! Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves and your backgrounds before joining spottydog?
Alex: Hi, I’m Alex and I’m the videographer here at spottydog. I’ve been in the role since January, having worked as a freelance videographer prior to that. After graduating from university with a degree in film and TV production, I spent some time establishing contacts with local production companies and building my skills while working as a production assistant on set. Freelancing as a videographer was a great way of expanding my skillset by working with a diverse range of clients, however, it’s been really refreshing to join spottydog and work collaboratively as part of larger team.
Alice: My spottydog journey began when I joined the team six-months ago as a graphic design intern. Having studied visual communications at university, I was keen to learn more about how my illustration and design skills could be applied in a commercial setting. I jumped straight into the world of work after graduating and quickly learnt on the job. I’ve really enjoyed my time at spotty so far and I was really pleased to have been recently promoted to the role of creative executive.
That’s brilliant. Tell us about the first project that you worked on at spottydog?
Alex: There was plenty going on when I joined the team and I really hit the ground running in my first few weeks. I immediately got to work with the Leicestershire Partnership NHS trust, editing a series of videos guiding expectant and new parents through a number of topics around pregnancy and how to care for their babies. It was great to put my previous experience to work by shooting and editing a large-scale project right away.
Alice: I was also able to dive straight into a project. At the start of this year, spottydog celebrated its 10th anniversary. After meeting the team and setting up my Mac, I was quickly briefed on creating a printed booklet to celebrate the work that the agency has carried out across the last decade. This was a brilliant first project as it allowed me to utilise my creative skills while learning all about the spottydog story so far.
Do you have any highlights from your time with us so far?
Alex: One of my favourite projects, so far, has been working with Autarky to produce video content about the finalists of their ‘Hardest Working Dog’ campaign. This campaign aimed to shine a light on some of the remarkable dogs working in healthcare, service, media and sports. It granted me a lot of space for creativity in terms of motion graphics, and to be honest, any work involving dogs is a huge win for me!
Alice: I really enjoyed creating the Climate Wise explainer video last month. This allowed me to develop my motion graphic knowledge and push my digital illustration skills. Working on the video from the initial storyboard and script to the final version allowed me to experience working with a narrative through video, which is something that I hope to work with Alex on in the future.
Exciting stuff! Finally, can you give us quick insight into what you’re both currently working on?
Alex: I’ve been out of the office and shooting on location with our new client Potters Poultry. We’ll be creating some new video content for them over the next few weeks, which is really exciting.
