This year has been anything but normal. It feels as though life, work and even small social interactions have been tipped on their head. Everything is now online. Conferences, networking, family meet ups, drinks with friends, many things in life now revolve around waving at little boxes on a screen, so it comes as no surprise that in the world of the new normal we attended the first virtual PRCA DARE Awards!

We were so excited that even the lack of a physical event to attend didn’t stop us from getting into the party spirit at home, some of us even dressing for the occasion! One note of caution though, 28C heat is not the weather to crack out the dinner jacket!

And spoiler alert, we won! We were over the moon to scoop a hat-trick of awards, one for Mitchells & Butlers HR Direct Area Repair Technician (DART) recruitment campaign and two for Autarky’s Hardest Working Dog campaign on behalf of Dodson & Horrell.

Autarky’s Hardest Working Dog Campaign


spottydog was briefed by Dodson & Horrell, the parent company of Autarky dog food, to create a campaign that complied with HMRC 0% VAT regulations but recruited new consumers into the brand.

Autarky’s Hardest Working Dog campaign exceeded all expectations and over-performed against its all of its original objectives. Throughout the campaign, Autarky saw a 164% YOY growth in direct traffic to the website. Overall, over 56,000 unique users engaged with the campaign and the brand’s social media followers also increased by 7%.

We were tasked to create an engaging campaign with a limited budget and a very short timescale for a brand new job role.

Our On the Job video creative campaign helped to showcase the role by using an existing team member to explain in their own words what the role entailed and this lent an extra later of authenticity to the recruitment activity. Coupled with strategic use of social media, we helped Mitchells & Butlers recruit double the number of candidates they required and achieved their lowest ever cost to recruit activity ever.

We’ve very proud to put these three shiny new PRCA Midlands DARE awards on display in our Birmingham office, because not only are they great accolades but they also show that we continue to create best of breed , award-winning PR agency campaigns for our clients.
