Charity Challenge for Birmingham Dogs Home

by Maddy McCrann-Smith |

Last month, we challenged ourselves to support Birmingham Dogs Home and take part in their ‘Take the Lead Challenge’. We set ourselves what we thought was a tough target of one million steps and aimed to raise £500 for the charity.

By the end of week two we had already smashed our target and decided to increase our overall number of steps to three million. This meant an extra two million in two weeks! However, this didn’t deter us. We all “pooch-ed” in and we managed a grand total of 3.2m steps and raised over our £500 fundraising target.

At spottydog, we are incredibly “paw-ssionate” about dogs. Not only is our logo and name inspired by dogs, but we are a pup friendly office and we have a whole portfolio of pet clients. All charities are suffering with a dip in donations at the moment, which is why Birmingham Dogs Home seemed like the ‘paw-fect’ fit for our fundraising.

Working together to reach the collective target was also a great way to bring the team together. Although we are regularly keeping in touch with our daily social calls the weekly leaderboards added another element of team bonding and competition as we all did our best to step to the top spot!

The whole team came together, sharing pictures of themselves and their dogs out on their walks and as we are currently working from home it was great to see pictures of the different places everyone was walking – from the canals and streets of Birmingham to country fields and woods.

We continued our fundraising for the charity into June during the Virtual Pet Index. We asked people visiting our stand to guess how many steps our office dog Zac had done throughout May. For every person that guessed we donated an extra £5 to Birmingham Dogs Home.

Following on from our fundraising efforts in May and June, spottydog is delighted to be continuing to support our furry neighbours at Birmingham Dogs Home! With our portfolio of pet clients, we have a huge amount of expertise in the sector — so we’ve decided to help the charity’s hard-working team to develop ‘pawsome’ campaigns to raise awareness of the charity’s plight and help the rescue dogs get the loving homes they deserve.
