Ella Measom joins the Leicester pack on her university placement year

Hello, my name is Ella and I’m the new pup at spottydog! I am currently doing my work placement year with spottydog as part of my Communications and Public Relations undergraduate degree at Northumbria University in Newcastle. Having spent two years studying the theory involved in public relations, I was eager to swap the late nights and lectures to take a year out from university, to gain some real-life experience with clients.

After doing some research into PR agencies in the Midlands, spottydog stood out to me due to their impressive clientele and their outstanding awards.  Once I had completed some work experience in the Easter holidays, I was certain it would be the pawfect fit for me. Luckily, they hired me! On my first day, all jitters soon banished as everyone at spottydog welcomed me with open paws, especially Nelson and Zac, the office dogs!

My first week has been full of excitement as I was given introductions into the clients I am going to be working with, including Mitchells and Butlers, Autarky and Chuckit! The first piece of work assigned to me was to write a blog for the Mitchells and Butlers Careers website. This was featuring their graduate scheme and involved me interviewing numerous graduates about their experiences. I was thrilled to be able to put the written communications skills I had studied at university to good use! I have also been working on the social media calendar for Chuckit! which has given me an insight into how optimise copy for a variety of social media platforms.

Despite only being here for a short time, I’m paw-sitive I will learn all there is to know about PR and communications from the top dogs in the industry. Going forward, I’m excited to start working with Chuckit! and Autarky, but first I’ll need to brush up on my dog puns!
