The Energy Technology Institute’s Vessel Technology Advice and Support (VTAS) project helps the commercial shipping industry understand the benefits of investing in fuel efficient technologies to accelerate their deployment. spottydog communications was asked to support the launch of the project at the global Vessel Performance Optimisation Forum in Copenhagen. Then through social media, media relations and an animated ‘explainer video’, we continued its brand reputation management and position in the market.
With just three weeks to the launch date, spottydog communications researched and mapped key stakeholder groups, key media and influencers, and planned a proactive social media calendar to coincide with, and maximise, the opportunities to engage at the Copenhagen conference and beyond. A press release was issued and targeted features were secured to provide VTAS’ technical experts with thought-leadership opportunities.
Continually working with the project team, we reacted to news opportunities to position VTAS as the ‘go-to’ company for low carbon marine solutions, alongside SEO optimised blogs to improve website visibility. Our proactive social media approach allowed us to map opportunities to engage with industry influencers and key industry events.
In six months, we grew a highly engaged social community from zero to 195 across Twitter and LinkedIn. Achieving above industry average engagement rates on both platforms, we achieved a 7% engagement rate on LinkedIn and 1.4% on Twitter. Building VTAS’ industry reputation we successfully engaged with 163 influencers outperforming our KPI of 120.
