Hi, I’m Alana the latest intern to join the team at spottydog. Having spent the last three years studying at the University of Birmingham I was reluctant to leave the second city behind me, meaning that I couldn’t be more excited to have been offered a placement at spotty’s Birmingham office, right in the heart of Brum.
As a recent literature graduate I was keen to move on from Shakespeare essays and endless discussions about metaphors to gain some hands-on industry experience. After spending my summer getting some communications work experience under my belt (alongside a couple of holidays), I felt sure that the world of PR was for me and began doggedly pursuing the paw-fect position. My search led me to the top pups at spottydog communications and I’m pleased to have been taken on as their newest recruit!
My first two weeks have been great thanks to the warmest of welcomes from the rest of the team and their patience in getting me up to speed with everything that I need to know. Among other things I’ve been given masterclasses in writing press releases and photography briefs as well as learning how to monitor and evaluate press coverage.
My role will be predominantly be focused on working with Mitchells and Butlers meaning that I will be spending time each week at their corporate head office. I’m looking forward to experiencing two very different, but equally exciting, office environments. The chance to work so closely with the UK’s leading restaurant and pub operator is a fantastic opportunity and I’m looking forward to being involved with the PR for some of the country’s best loved food and drink brands.
Having already learnt so much during my short time at spottydog I’m confident that the next few months will be filled with many opportunities for me to further develop my skills. I feel really lucky to be part of such a friendly and dynamic team and can’t wait to get stuck into all of their fantastic work!
