Attending the spottydog Open House event in May created a full circle effect. I had the pleasure of learning about various careers in PR and career tips from existing spottydog employees — and now, just a few months later, here I am working alongside the team!
Studying for a marketing masters alongside completing my internship at a top PR agency in Birmingham, means I have the perfect place to put my master’s skills into action. In just four weeks, I have already learned so much from working with such talented colleagues and by taking advantage of the training sessions spottydog has facilitated.
My time as an intern has been very fast-paced and exciting, working with such varied clients on their social media, including Heritage Bathrooms (a stunning high-end bathroom company), BNP Paribas Personal Finance (who offer responsible consumer finance solutions) and INDRA (an innovative market-leading EV manufacturer).

I start each morning by reviewing my email subscriptions, scouting for social media trends. We then flag anything of interest to our clients, with ideas of how we could react and join in with the conversation.
I then check into my clients’ social media accounts, replying to customer comments, tagged posts, and interacting with our followers — community management is so important to drive engagement with customers. I always love to see the Heritage Bathrooms posts we’ve been tagged in to see how consumers have styled their Heritage products and made their spaces unique!
Around 10am each day, I make a to-do list with urgent tasks — for example, scheduling social media posts and drafting up blogs or social media calendars.
As an Intern, I love that I can join in with internal and external team meetings. This has really helped me to grasp the industry backgrounds of each client and has given me a boost of confidence as I regularly get to update and communicate with clients along with senior team members.
At spottydog, we have a weekly operations meeting every Monday, where the team shares updates and the priorities for the week ahead. It’s a great way to hear what other teams are working on for their clients and what they’ve achieved!
Before lunch, I usually have a check in chat with my line manager, Isla, where I can ask questions and have a general catch-up.
Lunch time at spottydog is around 1pm. I’ll head over to the office kitchen and catch up with my colleagues and find out about their days. For most lunch breaks, I’ll step into town and be spoilt for choice of what to have for lunch (the many perks of a city centre office)! This is fun on Fridays where the entire spottydog team order lunch together and have #FatFoodFridays — a little treat for us all to indulge at the end of a busy week!
From 2pm onwards, I can be doing anything from writing blog posts and social media content creation to liaising with journalists and influencers. I recently secured coverage in Real Homes for Heritage Bathrooms, and I can truly say that it was such an amazing feeling — not only because of the brand awareness it drives for the client, but being able to share the news with the spottydog team!
The culture at spottydog is one of my favourite aspects of the business; I have never stepped into such a welcoming and supportive environment.
