So I’m Andy, spottydog’s first Chief Operating Officer. In this new role I have assumed responsibility for the delivery of our business strategy, our client proposition and our operational effectiveness. Another key focus of my role is to continue our strong tradition of investing in our staff and their training, to not only help reinforce our client proposition but also develop everyone’s career whilst they work here at spottydog. I will also provide strategic counsel on communications issues to our client base.
I bring with me 20 years of experience working in strategic communications and public affairs with The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) and the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI). Most people know RBS as one of the world’s largest banks, but for those not familiar with them, the ETI is a £400m industry and UK government research partnership into low carbon energy system planning and technology development to address UK energy and climate change goals.
At RBS I held a number of leadership roles across marketing, media relations and public affairs. During the financial crisis, I was Head of Media Relations for the bank’s UK Corporate Banking Division and sat upon the Group’s Global Communications Board which was established to manage communications activity for the bank during the crisis and its subsequent recapitalisation. I was also involved in establishing communications teams to drive the reputational rebuild programme of the bank and its UK franchise at both a national and regional level.
In my role as Head of Communications at the ETI I was responsible for establishing the communications function. Given the research focus of the institute, knowledge creation and its dissemination to influence behaviour was a key output of the organisation. It was my role to ensure that the communications strategy impacted the ETI’s principal stakeholders by informing government policy, influencing corporate investment strategies and accelerating academic research in low carbon technology development.
ETI is a client of spottydog and this is how my relationship with the company has grown and developed over the last 18 months. The strength of the working relationship and the proactive and professional attitude of the spottydog team was a key influencer in me deciding to join them when my ETI contract came to an end at the end of 2018.
I am really excited to join a dynamic, fast-paced and growing agency. My focus is to ensure spottydog continues to be an agency of choice for clients and a highly desirable place for Midlands based communications professionals to work. This will be achieved by evolving our operational environment and embracing new ways of working which continues to put our client’s needs first. We will also maintain our commitment to our staff and their training to enhance the spottydog DNA of delivering best of breed communications through pedigree people.
